Dear Parents and Guardians,

Greetings from La Salle School Homa Bay!

As we come to the end of Term 2 2025, we take this opportunity to express our heartfelt gratitude for your continued support, trust, and commitment to your child’s education and holistic development. This term has been rich in learning experiences, achievements, and memorable moments that reflect the spirit of excellence and collaboration that defines our Lasallian community

ACADEMICS/ASSESSMENT

This term, we made significant progress in syllabus coverage across all Grades/classes in different learning areas. The teaching and learning process remained learner-centered, ensuring active participation and continuous feedback for growth.

Learners were assessed both formatively and summatively with two summative assessments (mid term and end term assessments) being given. The assessment results were published and links for the results shared to the individual parents via sms. In case you did not receive the link or you were unable to view your child’s results, kindly contact us through our office line.

We hereby commend our learners for the good performance they have shown throughout the term. As we move to the final term of the academic year 2025; which will include national assessments for Grades 3, 4, 5, KPSEA for Grade 6 and end-year evaluations for all the Grades, we assure you that our focus will remain sharp on preparing every learner academically, emotionally, and spiritually.

ROBOTICS TOURNAMENT

This term, we are proud to celebrate a major milestone achieved by our learners in the area of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM).

Our robotics team recently participated in this year’s Robotic Tournament held at Tom Mboya Labour College in Kisumu. The event brought together schools from across the region to showcase their skills in programming, automation, artificial intelligence, and problem-solving through robotics. Our learners, drawn from Grades 4 to 6, presented a variety of projects—including line-following robots and sensor-driven prototypes—developed under our STEM integration program. Their innovation, teamwork, and articulate presentation captured the attention of the judges and organizers. As a result of their impressive performance and display of 21st-century skills, our team received a special invitation to present their work during the Homa Bay Diocese CAPSSHA (Catholic Primary & Secondary Schools Heads Association) Workshop—a capacity-building forum that focused on pathways in Senior School, particularly the STEM track and changes in CBE.

The CAPSHA workshop, organized under the Homa Bay Catholic Diocese Education Office, aims to expose educators and learners to competencies and emerging trends in the Competency-Based Education (CBE), with particular emphasis on preparing learners for career paths in engineering, technology, health sciences, and applied sciences. Our learners’ presentation at the workshop served as a powerful testimony of how early exposure to robotics and digital literacy can inspire and prepare the next generation of innovators.

We commend our learners for their curiosity, hard work, and poise in both the tournament and the workshop. We also appreciate our STEM facilitators and teachers for mentoring and guiding them with dedication and expertise.

This achievement reaffirms our school’s vision of embracing technology as a vital component of education. As we look to the future, we remain committed to strengthening our STEM program and equipping our learners with the skills they need to thrive in a rapidly evolving world.

MUSIC FESTIVALS

At La Salle, we believe in nurturing the whole child—academically, spiritually, emotionally, and artistically. This belief was brought to life through our participation in the 2025 Kenya Music Festivals, where our learners journeyed from the Sub-County level to the Regional level held at Jaramogi Oginga Odinga University in Bondo (Siaya County), showcasing exceptional talent, discipline, and creativity.

Our learners presented a diverse array of items, including solo verses (English & French), choral verses (English & French), Singing Games, Sign Language performance and instrumental performances. Their outstanding presentation and confidence earned them several first-place positions, qualifying them for the County level and thereafter Regional level competitions.

Competing at these different levels was a remarkable experience for our learners, offering exposure, confidence-building, and a celebration of Kenya’s artistic diversity. Despite the high level of competition, our learners represented La Salle School with pride and grace, earning accolades and commendations for their poise, originality, and discipline. These festivals offered a platform for our young Lasallians to express their voices, appreciate heritage, and connect with peers beyond the classroom walls

We extend our gratitude to the dedicated Music team, our trainers, class teachers, supportive parents, and the entire La Salle fraternity for making this achievement possible.

We remain committed to nurturing music and performing arts as a vital part of holistic education. La Salle School Homa Bay is not only raising academic achievers—but also confident, expressive, and culturally rooted young leaders.

In line with our commitment to promoting holistic education through the arts, we are pleased to inform you of the introduction of a Drama Club, with activities conducted in both English and French. This initiative is aimed at nurturing public speaking, stage confidence, emotional expression, language proficiency, and performance skills among our learners.About the Drama Club:

  • Target Learners: All interested learners from Grade 2 upwards

  • Nature of Club: Non-paid (no extra cost to parents)

The French Drama component will also help reinforce classroom learning in an exciting and practical way. Learners who show interest and commitment will be prepared to participate in internal and external competitions, including future Kenya Drama and Film Festivals/Alliance Francaise organized events.

SPIRITUAL NOURISHMENT

At La Salle School, faith is at the heart of our mission. In the spirit of St. John Baptist de La Salle, the patron saint of teachers and founder of the Institute of the Brothers of the Christian Schools, we remain dedicated to the spiritual formation of our learners through the sacraments of the Church.

This year’s Founder’s Day Celebration, held in honour of St. La Salle, was marked with a special grace as several of our Catholic learners received the Sacrament of Baptism. The event, filled with reverence and joy, was presided over by Rev. Fr. Jacob from Homa Bay Town Parish. During the Mass, the candidates were welcomed into the Body of Christ and into the life of the Church, committing themselves to a journey of faith, love, and service.

The celebration reminded us of the mission of Catholic education—to not only teach minds but to also touch hearts and transform lives in Christ. It was a beautiful moment of renewal, reflection, and recommitment to our shared Christian values.

Upcoming Sacraments: First Holy Communion and Confirmation

Following Baptism, we are preparing for yet another important spiritual milestone. Ten of our learners have been undertaking catechism classes in readiness to receive the Sacraments of First Holy Communion and Confirmation on 9th and 10th respectively. The Holy Mass will be celebrated by His Lordship Rt. Rev. Bishop Michael Odiwa, Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Homa Bay

The Sacrament of Confirmation will mark their spiritual maturity, strengthening them with the gifts of the Holy Spirit and commissioning them to live as faithful witnesses of the Gospel.

The First Holy Communion will allow our learners to receive the Eucharist for the first time, deepening their relationship with Jesus Christ through the sacrament of love and unity.

We thank our Catechist, the Parish Priest, teachers and parents who have walked closely with the learners in their faith journey. As a Lasallian institution, we remain committed to forming learners who are not only intellectually competent but spiritually grounded.

We invite the entire La Salle family to pray with and for these learners as they prepare to receive these sacred sacraments.

Strengthening Global Lasallian Collaboration through Academic Exchange

As a proud member of the global Lasallian family, La Salle School Homa Bay was deeply honoured to host three teachers and partners from La Salle Barcelona for a month-long academic experience, which concluded on 30th July 2025. This meaningful exchange fostered collaboration, professional growth, and cross-cultural enrichment for both our staff and learners.

The visiting educators joined our school community as part of the Lasallian International Exchange Program, which seeks to promote unity in mission, shared educational practices, and a deeper understanding of the Lasallian charism across countries and cultures.

Purpose and Impact of the Visit

During their stay, the visiting team actively participated in the day-to-day life of the school. i.e Co-taught and observed lessons across various grades, offering new insights into learner-centred and inclusive pedagogies, Conducted joint planning sessions with our teachers, sharing best practices on competency-based learning and digital integration in classrooms, Engaged in co-curricular activities, including the school’s talent show strengthening the bond between learners and mentors across borders.

Their presence brought fresh energy to our classrooms and offered our learners exposure to diverse teaching styles and international perspectives. The learners particularly enjoyed Spanish cultural sessions, simple language exchanges, and collaborative art and music projects led by the visiting team.

The visit marked not an end but the beginning of a deepening relationship between La Salle School Homa Bay and La Salle Barcelona.

Moving forward, we hope to build on this connection through virtual collaboration, teacher exchange programs, and learner pen-pal projects, in line with our shared mission of “touching hearts and transforming lives.”

We thank the La Salle Barcelona leadership for facilitating this enriching program and extend our heartfelt gratitude to Pillar, Laura and Nuria for their dedication, humility, and genuine love for our learners. Your footprints remain part of our Lasallian journey.
